THIS week’s Picture of the Week is of a very rare visitor to the Wharfe Valley.
A hoopoe has been a resident for the past few days at Collingham near Wetherby and it was captured by local photographer John Waite.
John said: “A hoopoe has not been recorded in the Leeds area for 40 years. It is thought to have strayed from it’s usual migration to southern Europe.
“It was fairly tame and not at all bothered by the fuss it was creating in birdwatching circles!”
