PLANS to build a new £43.7 million section of road to bypass the notorious, landslip prone stretch of the A59 at Kex Gill were due to go before North Yorkshire County Council’s planning meeting this week, but have been put off pending further information..

The application to build a 2.5 mile section of road next to the existing stretch of the A59 was submitted at the end of last year, and it was originally hoped to start work on the site around the same time as the start of the coronavirus lockdown at the end of March, with the hoped for completion during the summer of next year.

Vicky Perkin, Head of Planning Services, North Yorkshire County Council, said: “The Kex Gill planning application had been anticipated to be presented to the Planning and Regulatory Functions Committee this month. However, the County Council, as planning authority, is aware of the likelihood of the submission of further information from the applicant and therefore the application will be deferred to a later meeting.”
