A WHARFEDALE MP is demanding answers to the ‘shocking’ reports he has been hearing about local COVID-19 testing.

Alex Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West) says he has been inundated with complaints from people who have hit obstacles while trying to get tested.

The problems constituents have encountered include difficulties in getting through the system, having to travel long distances to test centres and delays in obtaining the results. Mr Sobel has now written to Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock, to highlight those issues and find out what the Government is doing to improve matters. In his letter he says: “I am writing on behalf of dozens of constituents who have written to me regarding the problems that they have had getting a test for COVID-19.

“People have written to tell me they have had to take time off work as they could not get a test for them or their families. Those who have eventually got a test have reported ‘strangely quiet’ test centres and simply do not understand why it is so difficult.”

He added that some constituents had to travel as far as Bolton to get a test and asked what the Government was doing to address the issues.
