THE reopening of the indoor pool at Bradford Council’s Ilkley Pool and Lido leisure facility has unfortunately had to be postponed.

As staff prepared the pool for reopening after the closure due to the coronavirus pandemic and the pool was being refilled it became clear that some of the tiles within the pool were lifting which could be unsafe for swimmers and this needs to be investigated further before the pool can open.

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "Staff have been working very hard to open the pool for the public to use, as part of the phased reopening programme across the district. However, this has had to be put back due to the need for investigations into the tiling issue."

The spokesperson added: “We realise how disappointed everyone will be with this delay and we are working to investigate the tiling issue and resolve it as quickly as possible.

“We had hoped to open Ilkley Pool this week as part of the Council’s phased approach following the release of lockdown. Although there will be a delay as work continues we hope to reopen the pool as soon as possible and it is safe to do so. The safety of our customers is our top priority.”

Once investigations and work has been carried out to resolve the problem, Bradford Council will make an announcement to update residents with a new opening date and would like to thank everyone for their patience while we undertake this work.
