THE BARE-faced cheek of Silsden's Full Monty boys could raise £5,000 for Manorlands.

The five men who stripped off in the middle of a Silsden street have already raised more than £3,400 for the hospice.

But they still have a sizeable donation to come from Skipton Building Society and they are urging people to donate after watching a video of the striptease.

Men living in Hunters Meadow decided to recreate an iconic scene from the famous comedy film The Full Monty.

Glynn Collins, Will Dobson, Jim Thompson, Ryan Utley and David Mcarthur were watched by hundreds across the world as their routine streamed on Facebook.

Glynn said: "People who came to watch the event live had travelled from Guiseley, Yeadon, Wakefield, even from the Greater London area, and there were people tuning in to the live feed from Canada and Australia."

The project was started by local woman Jennifer Dobson after she heard about Manorlands needing many thousands of pounds to survive amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Glynn said: "Jennifer had set a target of £200. We thought at a push we might raise somewhere between £500 and £1,000. The actual total currently stands at £3,409 including gift aid, which was beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

"The live feed video and link is on Facebook for those who want to relive the event and make a donation, and we are hoping to end up somewhere near the £5,000 mark. "A special mention must go to GAP Hire Solutions who donated £750, but all us involved would like to thank everyone who during these trying times made a donation for this worthwhile cause.

"A massive thank you must also go to the people who live on Hunters Meadow, who made this event possible and were the unsung heroes on the day."

The Full Monty tells of five out-of-work steelworkers from Sheffield who take up stripping as a way to make ends meet and rebuild their dignity.

The film comedy was written by Glusburn-born Simon Beaufoy, went on to win an Oscar for writing the movie Slumdog Millionaire, and was later adapted into a musical set in America, then a British stage adaptation written by Simon himself.
