BOLTON Abbey’s tithe Barn venue is offering customers gourmet takeaway meals from a speciality menu.

Cripps & Co, which runs the Tithe Barn, has teamed up with pizza legends Baz & Fred to launch Cripps BBQs.

Having hosted weddings for over twenty years, Cripps & Co has had to pivot its business in response to Covid-19 – turning the beautifully restored barns it runs into temporary restaurants and takeaways.

Managers are looking to re-start weddings as soon as they are legally able to, so while the wedding business is quiet, they are offering a rare chance to visit some of their venues across the country which are normally only open to private parties.

The company has been running the Tithe Barn, on the Duke of Devonshire’s estate in Bolton Abbey for two years and it is now equipped with a specialist BBQ’s and rotisseries.

A spokesman said: “We will be takeaway only for a little while yet, but it means people will be able to order food and come and collect it, either to take home or to eat it within the grounds of the estate if they have arranged to spend some time here.”

Every week the chefs put together a weekly menu that includes vegetarian dishes.

Details of the menus are updated each week on the barn’s Instagram accounts and pre-orders can be made via the Cripps & Co website.

So far, Cripps BBQ has offered dishes such as: Rottiserie chicken / leg of lamb, duck fat roasties and Hispi cabbage with gravy, barbecue sirloin, fries and salad with peppercorn sauce, Peri Peri spatchcock chicken, fries and salad with Siracha mayo, ash cooked butternut squash, puy lentils and goats cheese, king prawn, cous cous, chilli, coriander and avocado salad.

Sweets are also not forgotten and you can takeaway a chocolate brownie and cream. Prices range from £8-£15 per person for mains.

Baz & Fred, well known in the street food scene in London for their pizzeria at Flat Iron Square, have been working closely with the Cripps & Co team for years – cooking pizzas at the barns for evening food.

Cripps & Co and Baz & Fred have worked hard to join forces and temporarily transform the barns they run into BBQ venues, in support of their staff for when the furlough scheme starts to diminish. Each of the barns have opened in line with the government guidelines, for the safety of their customers and staff. They are keen to re-open as wedding venues as soon as they can.

Takeaways are from 5pm and 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12pm and 3pm on Sundays. Orders can be placed at: https://www.tithebarnsbbq.co.uk/
