HOME workers are being warned to watch out for bogus texts and e-mails.
West Yorkshire Trading Standard says there has been a recent rise in phishing scams where messages are being sent claiming to be from video-call platform Zoom.
One of the messages says that a ‘Zoom voicemail’ has been received and that the recipient should call a premium rate number that the scammer claims costs ‘£6 plus standard network rate’.
There has also been a rise in reports about e-mails purporting to be from TV Licensing while another message claims to be from Uber and sends a fake activation code with an option to ‘unsubscribe’ by texting back - but the number is a premium rate text message.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards has produced a number of free, online community workshops to raise awareness of current scams.
