THE inspector at Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) has confirmed there will be increased police presence in Oswestry in the coming weekends after incidents of disorder.

Inspector Tracy Ryan promised an increased police presence after two violent incidents resulting in injuries in the town on Saturday evening.

One man suffered a broken jaw, while another suffered an eye injury.

The incidents, which are believed to be unrelated, have prompted response from Oswestry SNT, with Inspector Ryan warning dispersal orders will be put in place if necessary.

She said: "In relation to advice given to pubs, we have liaised with all of our licensees before the pubs reopened and we were quite satisfied with all the steps that were put in place.

"We will have an enhanced presence for the next couple of weekends because we have had this disorder now which we were hoping to avoid.

"We’re disappointed that people couldn’t act responsibly, and if that means there has to be enhanced police presence then that’s what will happen.

"It’s unfortunate we’ve had these pockets of disorder, because generally, the nighttime economy is quite well-mannered in Oswestry.

"But obviously, based on what has happened, we’ll have an enhanced presence and we’ll be looking at putting on dispersal orders to move people from the area if necessary.

"If anyone witnessed the incident or has any mobile phone footage, for both incidents, then it would be appreciated if they could come forward."

Police are appealing for information regarding both incidents.

The first of the two occurred outside the Ye Olde Vaults in Church Street.

A number of people were in the street at the time of the disturbance, which resulted in a 28-year-old man sustaining an eye injury.

He received treatment from paramedics at the scene but did not receive hospital treatment.
