KEIGHLEY Library is entering a new chapter.
It is relaunching services this week – but not as you knew them!
A new 'order and collect' system is being set-up.
People will be able to reserve books from the Bradford Libraries online catalogue, or by email or phone.
And then – from Wednesday (July 8) – they will be able to call at the library, in North Street, to collect the books.
Customers will be allocated a time slot, so social distancing guidelines can be adhered to.
Protective screens will be used in some areas and staff will be equipped with personal protective equipment where necessary.
Staff will be available via phone and email – on 01535 618212 or keighley.library@bradford.gov.uk – to discuss with people their reading preferences and help choose books.
The service is also being introduced this week at City Library in Bradford and Shipley Library and will be rolled out to others on dates to be confirmed.
People will be able to return books when orders are collected and there will be no fines or charges for late returns. Returned books will be subject to a period of quarantine before being made available to other customers.
The library will only be open for 'order and collect' – all other services at the site will remain closed to the public.
The home library service, for elderly or disabled people who find it difficult to get to the library, resumes deliveries tomorrow. Social distancing will be observed.
Keighley Local Studies Library is still closed, but from tomorrow will offer an email and telephone enquiry service.
Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: “The safety and health of staff, volunteers and library users will always be our main priority and we will be introducing our services gradually in line with the latest public health advice.
“In these initial stages we ask that people be aware that there may be some slight delays in getting the books requested but we are doing all we can to increase what we can offer as soon as is safe to do so."
