HOLIDAYMAKERS are being warned to beware of an increase in scams.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards says a number of bogus holiday-related offers are currently being advertised on social media - with more expected as the UK relaxes its lockdown.
In its latest newsletter the organisation says: “Holidaymakers be warned. Criminals will try and take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding travel.
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
“Criminals will often set up fake websites offering ‘cheap travel deals’ which are used to obtain your money and information.
“Always check the URL in the top left corner as this can indicate if the page is fraudulent.”
Other scams currently doing the rounds include fake online listings for caravans and motorhomes and a phishing e-mail which claims to be offering a National Insurance refund based on ‘measures to alleviate the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown’.
