OTLEY’S Parish Church has been bathed in green light to mark St John’s Day.
St John Ambulance was originally hoping to celebrate the Feast of St John the Baptist, and the work of its volunteers, with a service at St Paul’s Cathedral.
But the pandemic forced a change of plan and the charity had to switch to online celebrations on Wednesday, June 24 while buildings around the country were illuminated in its colours.
Chancellor of the Priory of England and the Islands of the Order of St John, Mick Messinger, said: “The St John team would like to thank Otley church for taking part in the celebrations and supporting its volunteers and staff . It was wonderful to see so many buildings lit up to help us celebrate and we’re immensely grateful.
“Green is one of the colours of the uniform worn by our volunteers. Currently they are supporting the NHS and communities around the country in the fight against COVID-19.” St John Ambulance has been providing first aid and first aid training for more than 140 years.
