COUNCILLOR Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley) has secured assurances that residents can deposit waste at Golden Butts household waste and recycling centre if travelling there on foot.

Cllr Hawkesworth was contacted by a resident who lives across the road to Golden Butts and was turned away on bank holiday Monday pulling a trolley of things to deposit on foot. There was no queue of cars at the time.

Cllr Hawkesworth took up the case and received a positive response from Sue Spink, Interim Assistant Director, Waste Fleet & Transport, who said it had been agreed with staff at Gold Butts that residents can take bags of rubbish on foot.

She added: “They will need to queue as everyone else is by going to the staff member on the gate, where they can either go to the back of the queue and walk with the cars or, as I would prefer, ask the staff on the gate to radio through the car registration at the back of the queue - when that goes in they can then do so. If there are no queuing vehicles they can enter as normal but following the social distancing and guidance from the staff.”
