THOUGH Ilkley Manor House has been closed since earlier this year the team has been giving thought to what we can be delivered at the Manor House it is able to open the house to visitors again.

One of the current ideas is to work with the community to produce a sewn lockdown quilt which tells the story of the lockdown for Ilkley and the surrounding area.

Sarah Thomas, Chair of the Manor House Trust said:”We want to ask anyone in the community - and you don’t need to be an amazing needle person just someone who would like to be part of the project - that you sew, applique, embroider, paint, stencil or whatever takes your fancy an image that encapsulates your lockdown experience on a square of fabric.

“We will then arrange for the squares to be put together as a wonderful community quilt.

“The quilt or quilts will then be put on display in the Manor House later in 2021 for everyone to come and enjoy.

“If you are interested in being part of this community project please email – quilts@ilkleymanorhouse.org or phone 01943 430664 and we will send you a project pack with all the information you need to get started.

“We hope that this project will be a creative way of capturing some of the memories of this period in our town’s history.”
