AN 84-year-old Sutton woman is walking a mile every day throughout May to raise money for Manorlands.

Brenda Sugden is covering the 31 miles by walking around Sutton Cricket Club and Cross Hills Football Club's field.

She set an initial fundraising total of £100 on a Just Giving page set up by daughter-in-law Pippa, but her efforts have already raised £560.

Brenda said: "Following the Government guidelines I take a walk each day, and I find I can do a mile around the periphery of the field three times with their permission.

"Including the walk to and from my home to the field the distance comes to a mile.

"Starting on May 1 I decided to continue throughout the month and with people's help raise funds. Thirty-one miles - not bad for an octogenarian!"

Brenda chose the Manorlands hospice in Oxenhope because she believes it provides excellent care, both in the hospice and in the local community.

She added: "Manorlands' compassion and understanding for patients and relatives alike is known throughout the district. sue Ryder Nurses and healthcare teams are always there for local people who are dying.

"Due to the present circumstances finance is a real problem. We are all facing something we have never faced before which is why Sue Ryder has launched an appeal to make sure that they are still here.

"Manorlands are providing incredible emotional support as well as specialist medical care to people who are finding themselves in unimaginably difficult circumstances."

On her donations page, Brenda asked people to give whatever they could afford, adding: "Every pound you give could make the difference to whether the Sue Ryder nurses can be there or not.
