A FIVE-year-old Steeton girl is performing a ribbon dance for her paramedic every day so he doesn't forget her.

Sasha Wilkinson isn't able to be with dad Rob because he had to leave the family home for safety while working on the NHS frontline.

But Rob calls back home each day to watch through the window as his daughter performs her daily dance while waving rainbow-coloured ribbons.

Sasha's imaginative routines have now caught the imagination of the world's public, with many people visiting Facebook or YouTube each day to watch.

Rob is a paramedic for the West Yorkshire Ambulance Service based at the Keighley station next Victoria Park.

Sasha attends Ghyll Royd School has attended lessons at the Northern Dance Centre since she was two years old.

Sasha's mum Rebecca said she began incorporating ribbons into her dances during last year's choreography competition. Rebecca said: "Ever since then she has loved using them.

"She has been doing on the spot impromptu dances to songs that friends and neighbours have requested. Each day she dances before her school work, it's a great way to start the day.

"Sasha has had requests from America, New Zealand, India, Italy and Australia. Her request from Italy was a song which was written for and during their Covid-19 pandemic, the singer-songwriter actually contacted her to congratulate her on the dance.

"Styles of music include pop, classical, Bollywood, heavy metal, jazz and brass band across all eras."

"Sasha's daily dances are a way of spreading joy. I think she uses these dance requests as a way to feel connected to the outside world and especially her dad.

"Each morning, first thing a request from him or any of our friends and neighbours is selected, she does the impromptu dance and it is then uploaded onto her YouTube channel Rainbow Dancer for her dad and everyone else to see."
