THIS photograph of Ilkley’s main car park taken on Saturday at 8.50am, shows that residents are heeding Government advice to stay at home.

It was taken by Mike Ridgway who said: “A very rare sight which will probably not be seen again - it is usually already packed at this time.

“I was only there to collect a prescription from Boots the chemist.”

The Government introduced measures on March 23 which require people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes. The aim is to reduce day-to-day contact with other people, which will reduce the spread of the coronavirus infection.

Every person in the UK must comply with these new measures. The relevant authorities, including the police, have been given the powers to enforce them – including through fines and dispersing gatherings.

The measures will be reviewed by the Government later this month.
