Police were called to Croasdale Square at 8.20am on Friday after the teenager had fallen ill at a house.
Police said the girl suffered a suspected cardiac arrest.
A police spokesman said: "She was treated by paramedics and taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital but sadly later died.
"The cause of death is currently being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious.
"A file will be passed to the coroner in due course."
An air ambulance, police cars and ambulances were seen in the area for a period of time this morning.
A message from nearby Audley Community Infant School was sent to parents warning them an air ambulance had landed in the school.

"Our site is being used as a landing space.
"Please be reassured there is no incident in school."
Eyewitnesses said the road was closed off for a while.
