YOUNG people are being invited to get involved in Otley’s first Coffee Festival.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 25 when the Parish Church will act as a ‘hub’ where visitors can find stands, talks and music.

Organisers Otley Coffee Culture are keen to attract lots of people including the town’s younger citizens, as Richard Hughes explained.

He said: “We would love young people to be involved and have organised a competition with prizes, certificates and a special presentation.”

Key Stage 1 age children can enter by drawing a picture on the theme of coffee, while those in Key Stage 2 can write and illustrate a poem - of up to 50 words - with the title Coffee.

Key Stage 3 children can also enter a poem or, like those in Key Stage 4, submit an essay or poster encouraging coffee drinkers to drink sustainably.

The three top entries in each category will receive a certificate and a few festival tickets to attend the prizegiving. If the entry is submitted by a school, there will also be a school certificate and ticket for the class teacher.

The winner in each category, meanwhile, will receive a book token for £15. Entries can can be dropped off with the entry form, in an envelope marked Coffee Festival Competition, at Cranberry Coffee Shop on Kirkgate.

The closing date for the competition, sponsored by Greenholme Carpets & Flooring, is Friday, April 17. For more details e-mail info@otleycoffeeculture.co.uk.
