ADDINGHAM Civic Society has officially opened its new telephone kiosk which has been renovated and now houses a defibrillator.

Jim Robinson, chairman of the society said: “Having renovated a kiosk 18 months ago (now a Village Information Point) we were approached about doing the same with a virtually ‘abandoned’ kiosk up at Small Banks, Cocking Lane.

“We rose to the challenge and finished the major refurbishment work some months ago and after some discussion decided that it should house a defibrillator.”

Supporter of the project Brian Allan persuaded his mum Merlyn to cut the ribbon to officially open the kiosk on December 17.

Mr Robinson added: “The area around the kiosk is very popular with walkers and quite remote and in many ways is an ideal location. I want to thank Emma Turner from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for her help and support with this very rewarding project.”
