THE FESTIVE dates for bin collections have been confirmed by Leeds City Council.

The authority is urging residents to take note of the changes that will apply over the Christmas and New Year period. Bin collections will continue us normal up until - and including - Saturday, December 21.

For the fortnight after that, between December 22 and January 5, most will be emptied either a day earlier or later than usual - for full details visit www.leeds.gov.uk/xmasbins and enter your postcode.

Leaflets are also being sent to all households within the city council’s area to remind residents of the changed dates relevant to them.

Leeds City Council collected an extra 330 tonnes of waste and recycling from black and green bins combined during the festive period last year: the equivalent weight of more than 25 double decker buses.

Leeds City Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Active Lifestyles, Councillor Mohammed Rafique, said: “We are very excited that Leeds residents can recycle even more plastics over this festive period, such as pots, trays, tubs, cartons and tetra packs.”
