THE Fairfax Singers have a new director of music Anthony Gray our new Director of Music. Anthony studied music at University in Cambridge and has recently returned to Yorkshire. He was the organ scholar at Southwell Cathedral and is a highly qualified organist and a keen pianist.

He has taken directorship at the recent concerts held in Bradford and Burley Methodist Church and led the choir at Abbeyfield, Ilkley on December 11.

A choir spokesperson said: “It is with some sadness that we say farewell to Dorothy Hawkshaw our retiring Director of Music. Dorothy has taken the choir from strength to strength over the last 14 years, but fear not, Dorothy is not leaving….oh no! Dorothy now intends to take her seat amongst the ranks of the Contralto Section, a welcome addition both vocally and musically, Dorothy also will remain as Librarian and Concert Secretary for the Society.”

Fairfax Singers are a mixed voice choir with some 33 members who have been performing for charitable functions since its formation in 1996, helping to raise funds for various causes. Fairfax singers also are available for weddings, funerals, fund raising and corporate events and have been part of Leeds and Bradford Christmas and Summer celebrations for many years.

Currently there are vacancies in the tenor and bass sections. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evening at St John Fisher & St Thomas More R. C. Church room - 7.30pm in Burley-in-Wharfedale.
