OTLEY’S Snowman Trail is underway - and proving to be a big success.

The annual event sees snow figures created, using all kinds of materials, and set up outside businesses and homes around town.

This year’s trail runs until Sunday, December 22 and has attracted more than 80 entries.

Organiser - and Town Councillor - Nigel Francis says it is going down a storm with the public and more than 1,200 trail map booklets have been distributed.

He said: “It is not only Otley people who are doing the trail.

“I was talking to a family last Monday who had come over from Ilkley and they said how much they all enjoyed it.

“We hope everyone will enter the competitions, read the story, support the businesses and enjoy the trail booklet.”

Any profit from the adverts or donations linked to the trail will go to Hang on to a Dream.

Chaired by Cllr Francis, the charity raises money for children and young people with life threatening illnesses.

The Otley Snowman Trail, started up to create another reason for people to visit the town during the Christmas period, is now in its third year.

Trail booklets are free and include a Christmas story, a festive word search and a page for drawing a snow person on, with a prize on offer for the best entry.

They can be picked up from a number of outlets around Otley.

Those include: Otley Core on Orchard Gate; Toyland on Westgate; Chevin Health Store on Boroughgate; Kirkgate Arcade; JB Wilkinson and Sons on Boroughgate; Geo Middlemiss & Son on Market Street; and A Teale & Son Bakery on Kirkgate.
