THE Ilkley Macmillan Ladies Luncheon Club will host a special event at its next scheduled meeting.

Irene Lofthouse will present a one-woman dramatic presentation entitled Words, Women and War: Forgotten Female Voices of The Great War.

It will be performed at The Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley, 12.15 for 12.45pm on Wednesday, December 11.

Actor, writer and Edinburgh Fringe performer Irene Lofthouse invites you to meet four Yorkshire women who contributed to the war effort.

Bradford-born Alberta was a member of the Voluntary Aid Detachment providing nursing care to military personnel.

Leeds-based Dorothy was the youngest Lady Mayoress and a Pals Battalion fundraiser.

Harrogate lass Betty was a YMCA volunteer and worked in Paris and Étaples driving the wounded.

York-born Flora was the only British women to officially serve as a soldier, which she did in the Serbian army on their front line.

Hear the voices of these forgotten women and learn about their lives during the Great War.

This one-woman dramatic presentation will last for an hour, followed by a question and answer session.
