THE start of the new academic year in September saw the start of a new Headship at Moorfield School in Ilkley - and now Mrs Tina Herbert, initially Acting Head, has officially stepped up from Deputy to take over as the new Head Teacher.

With over 30 years’ experience in teaching, 20 of those in state education, Tina has welcomed this new, exciting opportunity in her career.

Tina has been at Moorfield for ten years and has been the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Form 4 teacher, NQT mentor, Assistant Head and then for the last two years, Deputy Head.

Previously in state education, Tina started her career in Bristol where she met her husband and where her two daughters were born. She comes from Yorkshire originally and was very pleased to get the opportunity to move back with her family 18 years ago, settling in Ilkley.

Tina said: “Moorfield is a small school with a very big heart. We are proud that our children are curious, open minded, resourceful, confident and, most of all, kind. These are values which staff, children and parents cherish and make Moorfield the magical place it is.

"We put the children at the centre of all we do, instilling a life-long love of learning.

"Having been part of the fabric of the school and watching it go from strength to strength over the last 10 years, I am now looking forward to developing our innovative teaching even further with the introduction of a dedicated STEM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths), led by a wealth of talented teachers and our recently appointed Computer Scientist and STEM Co-ordinator."
