OTLEY Sailing Club’s Sailfree scheme has received a £5,000 funding boost.
The grant from Halifax, part of Lloyds Banking Group, will help the club (OSC) provide greater mobility access for a wider range of users.
Through its award winning, volunteer-run Sailfree programme OSC offers weekly sailing sessions to young people with physical and complex learning difficulties.
Club Commodore Magnus McDonald said: “This year we’ve run more than 2,000 sailing sessions largely through close relationships with local schools, care homes and community groups. Seeing the joy and freedom our sailors experience and the difference this scheme makes is incredible.
“We’re entirely volunteer-run and rely on grants and fundraising to ensure we can continue to run this amazing scheme. The grant will make a huge difference and means we can undertake essential club improvements to ensure we can continue to safely accommodate wheelchair users.
“So thank you Halifax.”
