THE STATUS of a footpath at a local nature area will be discussed by Otley councillors next week.

The Policy and Resources Committee will be asked to comment on proposals to make the path that runs through Gallows Hill, from the White Bridge to Knotford Nook, a designated right-of-way.

The matter will be discussed by the committee when it meets at Otley Core, on Orchard Gate, on Monday, November 11.

The meeting will follow on immediately from a 7pm meeting of the Full Council.

Based on the south side of the River Wharfe to the east of Otley, off Pool Road, Gallows Hill is a popular destination.

Reclaimed from former sewage work sludge beds in the 1980s and 1990s, it is now an important habitat for many species including amphibians, birds, butterflies and dragonflies.
