MEMBERS of Addingham WI visited Airedale Hospital to hand over a cheque for £300 after being moved to help the stroke unit when one of their speakers shared her story with them about the care she had received.

Julie Bridgman from Addingham WI said: “We are always doing fundraising and it’s important to us that they are local because we are a charity ourselves. One of our guest speakers was telling us about her spinal stroke and that she had her rehabilitation here at Airedale. So for our next two events, an afternoon tea and the teas at Addingham Gala, the profits we made we decided to give to the stroke unit as a great cause.”

Shinta Joseph, Senior Sister on the Stroke Unit at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are very grateful to the WI for thinking of us. We will be using the donation for our activity afternoons which we’ve started for our patients. Every afternoon we do some activities with either music, creative art and jigsaws or taking the patients out. We even recently had an alpaca party.”
