OTLEY Carnival Committee has named the groups that will benefit from next year’s event.

Otley Community Allotment, Otley Maker Space and Otley Old People’s Welfare Centre will all receive a share of the proceeds from the 2020 carnival.

Otley Community Allotment was set up in 2018 as a place for local people to grow food and learn new skills together. The group occupies a site at the Birdcage Walk allotments which it is working on to make accessible to all.

Otley Maker Space is a community workspace that opened this year at Otley Courthouse to create a maker community to ‘strengthen local ties, share skills and boost community spirit’.

Otley Old People’s Welfare Centre, meanwhile, has been run for the benefit of the town’s older citizens since 1962 and is used by the Otley Over 60s Club and others while Otley Action for Older People (OAOP), which runs a lunch club in the building, is based there.

A Carnival Committee spokesperson said: “We are delighted to announce these groups as our 2020 beneficiaries. Our fundraising starts now so please come and support us at the Victorian Fayre on Sunday, December 1.”
