ILKLEY’S very own vintage fair celebrates its tenth event in the town with another day-long celebration of all things retro on Saturday, October 26. The Ilkley Vintage Fair has run twice a year at Ilkley Playhouse since April 2015 and this highlight of the annual shopping calendar is set to mark this milestone in style.

Once again, the doors of the Weston Road venue will open at 10am to allow vintage lovers the chance to explore the 20 stalls of vintage clothing, homeware, kitchenware, furniture, toys, vinyl and many more items dating from between the 1920s and 1980s during the day.

Jill Coulson, of Burley-in-Wharfedale based vintage firm Alfie Robot Retro organises the fair and is excited to take over the Playhouse for the tenth time. “It’s amazing to think that the fair has reached double figures” she said. “I’m always so delighted to meet both new and returning customers as they browse the stalls.”

She puts the appeal of vintage down to a number of factors. “When you buy vintage, you are tapping into a history and a story. You get hold of something that isn’t in every other wardrobe, kitchen or living room in the country nowadays,” she said. “Whether it is a Mary Quant dress, a Hornsea coffee jar, an Ercol table or anything else, there’s always something exciting to discover. Some of the other attractions of vintage are the fact that there are items to suit all budgets and it is a real antidote to our disposable society. Vintage is a sustainable way to reuse or recycle the classic designs of the past.”

Stallholders trading at Ilkley Vintage Fair on October 26 include Mr H Vintage of Leeds. Mark from Mr H is excited to trade at Ilkley for the first time. “I’ve heard great things about the event,” he said. “I’ll be bringing a broad selection of kitchenalia and homeware from the 1950s -1970s.”

Ilkley Vintage Fair regular trader My Vintage Beau will bring rails of women’s and men’s vintage fashion items from their Bradford base and Tadcaster’s Moonbow Vintage will have a selection of mid-century furniture including sideboards, statement chairs and compact mid-century storage. Jodie Goodall from Moonbow says: “I’m excited to bring furniture to Ilkley because it’s such a friendly fair with a wonderful atmosphere in the heart of a beautiful town”. In addition, Retro Deco of Huddersfield are specialists in 1920s glass and art deco design.

You will also find a range of other items from the kitsch to the classic, as well as a tea room serving hot drinks and delicious cakes to help perk up weary shoppers.

Ilkley Vintage Fair takes place at Ilkley Playhouse on Saturday, October 26. Doors are open from 10am until 4pm and entry is £1 per person (under 16s are free).
