A HORSFORTH opticians has its sights on raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society.

Staff at Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care on Town Street will be in fancy dress to hold a bun and cake sale on Thursday, September 19 to mark World Alzheimer’s Day which takes place on September 21.

Branch manager Katie Fox said: “It’s a cause we care about because dementia affects the lives of so many people in our community. There is a real need for continued research and support so any donations will be gratefully received.”

Scrivens is supporting Alzheimer’s Society for a fourth successive year because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s. The branch will also donate £1 for every hearing screening undertaken from September 16 to 21.

On its website the charity says: “Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia today.

“Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and there’s currently no cure.”

It urges the public to support its fight, adding: “Working together we know we will achieve our vision - a world without dementia.”
