A LOCAL hospice is this week launching a campaign to encourage LS29 residents to join a new fundraising group.

Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, near Keighley, provides expert palliative care, advice and support for people across Airedale, Wharfedale, Craven and North and West Bradford, who are living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families. Its inpatient hospice provides round-the-clock assessment and specialist care to help manage patients’ symptoms and its day service helps people living with long term conditions avoid unnecessary trips to hospital.

The hospice also offers community services for people who prefer to receive palliative care at home.

Karen Jones, community fundraiser at Manorlands, said: “It costs Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice approximately £540,000 to provide care to patients and their families in LS29. Without raising this each year, we will not be able to continue to provide the services we do.

“Sue Ryder, Manorlands Hospice is now looking for people in the LS29 post code area to be part of a fun group to help us raise much needed funds and increase awareness of local Sue Ryder services in the Ilkley area.

“Do you have good communication skills, a few hours to spare and like having fun and meeting new people? Are you honest, reliable and apply passion and enthusiasm to all you do? If you answered yes, or you know someone who would answer yes to this, then this could be the role for you.

“People join these groups for their own reasons and interests and the fundraisers at Manorlands are there to support you every step of the way, organising anything from a coffee morning to an all-night party.”

To find out more about what is involved LS29 residents are invited to a friendly information session on Wednesday, September 25 at 8pm in The Flying Duck, Ilkley, LS29 9DR.
