THE ANNUAL brass band concert organised by Aireborough Rotary will take place in Yeadon on October 25.

The Festival of Brass will feature the Hepworth Band with conductor Frank Renton. It will take place at 7.30pm at Yeadon Town Hall. Tickets, which are non-refundable, cost £13 and include a programme. Bookings can be made on 07753 434214, and card payments are accepted.

Bradford born Frank Renton will return to Yeadon Town Hall for the 19th time this year.

Mr Renton has been a household name among music lovers for many years. He presented the weekly Listen to the Band programme on BBC Radio 2 for more than two decades.

Born in 1939, he began to study the piano when he was seven and the trumpet when he was ten. He became a professional trumpet-player, and in 1967 he won a Competition for Young Conductors at the Edinburgh Festival.

He worked in Germany and Singapore, where he conducted the first performances of the country’s new symphony orchestra. In 1985 he became Principal Conductor of the Royal Artillery Orchestra. In 1988 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the British Concert Orchestra.
