OTLEY’S multi-award winning Bellman has added another couple of titles to his tally.

Terry Ford emerged victorious from the Garstang Town Crier Competition on August 17 and then took first place in the inaugural Liverpool Town Crier Competition on Saturday, August 31.

At Liverpool he was one of eleven criers who took part in an event, held under the Atrium of the Liverpool Museum, that was hosted by Liverpool Town Crier Terry Stubbings.

The competition consisted of two rounds - the first involving a ‘home cry’ extolling the virtues of each crier’s home town and the second involving a ‘subject cry’ about different aspects of Liverpool.

Mr Ford said: “I was delighted to achieve first place in the first Liverpool Town Crier Competition.

“For the subject cry each crier was given a different Liverpool related subject to write a proclamation on, and mine was the Docks.

“The venue was excellent and the public and staff at the museum made us all feel very welcome.

“The event was rather bittersweet, though, as Terry Stubbings announced his retirement at the end.

“There are currently no plans to fill the now vacant position, so this may well be the first and last competition in Liverpool.”
