A LONG empty unit on a busy Bradford road could finally be brought back into use.

For years a shop unit at Grade II listed 472 Thornton Road, near the entrance to Morrisons, has stood vacant.

The property had fallen into the ownership of Bradford Council, which sold the unit at auction in June for £43,000.

Images from the auction catalogue shows the poor condition of the inside of the unit.

Now plans are underway to convert the building - next to a bus stop, into a beauty parlour.

Property and land sale raises over £200k for Council

An application, submitted by Sanjay Zalke, is asking Bradford Council for listed building consent to create a new shop front on the building and build an extension in the rear yard.

The plans say: "This proposal improves stability of the building and structure without effecting any of the original fabric of the building. The aim is to ensure the fabric of the building can be repaired using suitable materials and finishes can be retained to benefit the area and the immediate environment."

A decision on the application is expected in October.
