AN OTLEY school has planted a tree in memory of Harry Buckley.
Harry, who was a pupil at The Whartons Primary School, died in 2014 after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer two and a half years earlier. He was six years old.
Year 6, which Harry would have been part of, have held a tombola in his memory which raised £210 for Candlelighters. Parents also raised funds so that a fruit tree can be planted, with a plaque reading Harry’s Tree 2019, in the school grounds.
The money will allow a willow tree and blueberry bushes to be planted in the autumn, too, with a remaining £52 being added to the tombola proceeds.
A sweet cherry tree was planted in Harry’s memory this week when representatives from Candlelighters also visited the school to receive a cheque for £264. Candlelighters helps families across Yorkshire who are affected by childhood cancer.
