THE STORY of two forgotten scientists who helped unlock the secrets of DNA will be told at a talk in Rawdon.
In Praise of Wool will look at the achievements of Nobel Prize winners Archer Martin and Richard Synge.
The talk will be given by Dr Kersten Hall, Honorary Fellow of Leeds University, at 2pm on Tuesday, July 16. It will take place at Rawdon Community Library.
In June this year the achievements of Archer Martin and Richard Synge, Nobel Prize winners in 1952, were finally celebrated with a plaque at the former Wool Industry Research Association in Headingley. Their invention of partition chromatography allowed the analysis of proteins and contributed to the identification of DNA.
The plaque to the two scientists, who were awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry, was unveiled by the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society as part of the celebration of its bicentenary.
