ILKLEY Clean River Group is holding its second town meeting on Thursday, July 11 from 5.30pm to 7pm at Christchurch on The Grove.

A group spokesperson said: “On Saturday, June 29 4,500 people were at the Lido. Visitors spilled over to the riverbank and we counted 750 people swimming, paddling, playing in the river and on the bank. We need a clean river fit for people to play in.

“The Ilkley Clean River Group are campaigning for our sewage system to comply with European Legislation meant to protect the environment from urban waste.

“In our view Ilkley Sewage Treatment works do not comply with this legislation.

“Raw sewage is going into our river more than once a week

“ Please help us secure a clean river by coming along to show the town’s concerns.

“You can sign up here https://ilkley2ndtownmeeting.eventbrite.co.uk.

Yorkshire Water and The Environment Agency will be in attendance at the meeting.
