OTLEY has celebrated ‘community, tolerance and diversity’ as part of the Great Get Together weekend.
Residents gathered in the Market Square on Sunday, June 23 to enjoy some shared food to demonstrate the town’s welcoming spirit.
Organised by Otley Welcomes, the event was one of many that were held across the country inspired by the life of MP Jo Cox, who was murdered by an extremist in 2016. The Woolpack Studios also got into the spirit of the weekend by holding a musical ‘get together’ on Saturday, June 22 that included open-mic sessions.
MP Alex Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West) attended Sunday’s event in Otley. He said: “Otley’s great get together was everything you could hope for. The town sets a high standard for community events and it was fantastic to see so many people there.
“It was organised by the brilliant Otley Welcomes who do so much to bring the community together all year round and shows that we have more in common than that which divides us.”
