A SPECIAL match to raise funds for Wheatfields Hospice in Headingley and celebrate the Women’s World Cup will take place at Ilkley Town Football Club.

Ilkley MP John Grogan visited Ilkley Town Football Club to meet some of the girls and women who play in teams at the club.

The match will be a hard fought contest between Ilkley Ladies and Ilkley Under 14 Girls Team – the latter of whom have gone unbeaten all season.

Mr Grogan said: "The showing of the Women’s World Cup in France live on prime time BBC 1 is a watershed moment with six million watching the England v Scotland live far more than any viewing figures the Men’s Cricket World Cup is likely to achieve hidden away on subscription TV. We are lucky enough to have a very strong female football set up on our doorsteps at Ilkley Town Football Club so I would urge any women or girls who are being inspired by France 2019 to get in touch with them."

The match will take place on Saturday, July 6 at 2pm at Ilkley Town Football Club, Ben Rhydding Sports Club, Leeds Road, LS29 8AW. This will be followed by rounders and an awards evening. There will also be a raffle and snacks available through the day.

All proceeds of the event will go to the Wheatfields Hospice in Headingley – a Sue Ryder facility that provides expert palliative care and support for people who are living with a life-limiting condition, as well as supporting their families.

Meanwhile England meet Norway in the quarter finals of the World Cup live on BBC 1 on Thursday June 27th at 8pm.
