AIREBOROUGH and Horsforth’s MP has welcomed proposed changes to the Blue Badge disabled parking scheme.
The Department for Transport is issuing new guidance to local authorities about how they should issue the permits. The changes will mean that from August 30 people with ‘hidden’ disabilities - such as autism - which affect their mobility will also be eligible for a badge.
Mr Andrew said: “This will benefit those who find road travel difficult and provide them with better access to work, amenities, family and friends. This is very important as part of the Government’s work to improve greater parity for physical and mental health.
“I understand that the Department for Transport have already anticipated that, with the issuing of more badges, there will be an increased pressure on parking spaces. They have pledged to conduct a review into the enforcement of badges over the summer to ensure Blue Badge scheme continues to benefit those who need it.”
