A WHARFEDALE MP will speak at a ‘people’s vote’ rally in Leeds this weekend.

Alex Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West) will join fellow MPs plus sports stars, including former England footballer John Barnes, in addressing the launch of the People’s Vote North group.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 22 - nearly three years to the day since the EU membership referendum was held - at New Dock Hall, opposite Leeds Armouries.

The organisers say that the campaign is fighting ‘to make sure our region’s real voice is heard in the debate over Brexit, challenge lazy caricatures and provide support to thousands of activists in the region campaigning for people to have the democratic right to have a final say referendum’.

The rally starts at 12.30pm - people can gather from 11.30am - and is due to finish at about 1.30pm.

Other speakers on the day will include former Olympic athlete Steve Cram, Leeds Central MP Hilary Benn and Green Party MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, Majid Majid.

The rally will be the first of 15 Let Us Be Heard demonstrations that are being staged in towns and cities across the UK during the summer.
