OTLEY has held a ceremony to remember those who lost their lives on D-Day.
Hundreds of veterans from the Allied forces who fought in what was the largest combined land, air and naval operation in history gathered in France on Thursday, June 6 to mark the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
In Otley the local branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) organised a special service at the Memorial Garden on the day when prayers for the fallen, and survivors, were said.
About 45 people attended and were accompanied by a bugler as they sang the hymn Eternal Father, Strong to Save.
A minute’s silence was also held, with Otley Bellman Terry Ford signalling its end.
The following day, meanwhile, the Otley RBL branch held a stall at the Buttercross which raised £286. Most of the proceeds will go to the Battle Back Centre and its work supporting veterans.
