THE second Ilkley Town Meeting to discuss how to safeguard the River Wharfe in Ilkley takes place on Thursday, July 11, 5.30pm to 7pm in Christchurch on The Grove.

Becky Malby of the Ilkley Clean River Campaign said: “We are campaigning to stop the regular discharges of raw sewage into the Wharfe at Ilkley. There were at least 35 discharges in 2018, and some of these lasted several days. We believe our river is suffering, and it should be fit to play in and the riverbank should be free from sewage. At the last meeting we set up the Citizen Water Testing, now funded by the Town Council, and the Bathing Water Status Application.

“Come and find out how we are getting on and the latest updates from our representatives.”

“John Grogan MP will be joining us again, along with our new Town Mayor Mark Stidworthy, along with Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency.”
