MEMBERS of the Burley Memory Tree this week visited Burley Bowls Club as part of events for Dementia Action Week. Seven people living with memory problems, each accompanied by a family member, were looked after and coached by bowls club volunteers.
David Poucher said: “The Bowls Club is really keen to work with the wider community in Burley. We’re doing lots now with young people through local schools and the Scouts and Guides. This was a great opportunity to welcome people at the other end of the age spectrum. We’d love to welcome the Memory Tree group back again.”
Niccola Swan, who had helped organise the event, said: “We all had a really good time. It’s clear that bowling can be good for exercise and social contact. I hope we can repeat this soon.”
Other events included the AGM of Burley Dementia Action Group and two Dementia Friends sessions.
