THE next Ilkley Soul Club takes place on Sunday, June 2 - a change from the last Sunday of the month slot.

The club, which specialises in danceable northern soul and up tempo Tamla Motown played on the original vinyl 45 record release, is based at the Hollygarth on Leeds Road, the event runs from 3pm until 8pm and entry is £5 on the door.

Resident DJ’s Ian Smith, Keith Hudson, Danny Steel and Trevor Lofthouse are joined by two DJ’s from one of Bradford’s top northern soul clubs - the Black Cat. Mick Elsworth (pictured) and Stuart ‘Eddie’ Woodhead are residents at the Bradford soul club which meets on the second Saturday evening of every month at the Low Moor Club.

Ilkley DJ Ian Smith says: “The Black Cat has a very similar music policy to Ilkley. Mick and Stuart are excellent DJ’s, well respected on the scene, and so we are hoping for a cracking afternoon - a bit of a local derby!”

Further Ilkley Soul Club dates this summer include two Saturday nights dates. On Saturday night June 22 - Steve Dalton and Stuart Arber, from Bradford’s other top soul club - the Harold - guest.

After a month off in July the Club reconvenes on Saturday, August 3 with special guest well known northern soul record collector Scunthorpe’s Fred Benson.

Then on Bank Holiday Sunday the Club returns to its normal Sunday afternoon slot with special guest locally based West Midlands maestro Rob Haigh taking to the decks.

Ian added: “We have always wanted to try doing an Ilkley Soul Club on a Saturday night but the soul music scene is usually packed with other local events it has been difficult to fit one in.

“A five week month in June and the August holiday season when Keighley’s OKEH club is on a summer break provides us with an opportunity.”
