WHARFEDALE residents are being invited to welcome the summer solstice with a song.

Otley Singers are holding a workshop at Clifton Village Hall on Saturday, June 22 to greet Midsummer.

The event, run by the choir’s musical director Lorraine Cowburn and part of the Great British Get Together, is open to anyone aged over 14 and runs from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. It will focus on learning summer songs from different traditions including jazz, folk and world music.

Chair of Otley Singers, Sarah Stead, said: “We thought this would be a great opportunity to do something special for our local community. Singing brings people together like nothing else, it’s such a joyful experience and we would like people to share that.

“This is an afternoon to have fun, learn something new and make a joyful sound.” Tickets cost £8 and are available from Browns Gallery, Otley or from Sarah on 07952 245611.
