A GOLFER from Bramhope is set to make history.

Kimberley Hill will become the first female captain of Headingley Golf Club when she takes over in March, 2020.

Founded in 1892, Headingley is the oldest golf club in Leeds.

Kimberley, currently vice captain and a former captain of the Ladies section, has been on the main committee for the past three years.

Her husband, Terry and son, Robert are both club members.

She said: “I think the club should be a club for everybody and we should have a balance including at committee level, so that there are a variety of opinions.

“I am on a steep learning curve at the moment.

“This is a historic club where the club captain has traditionally been the gent’s captain.”

Kimberley has a background in banking and IT consultancy, both of which will she hopes will prove useful in her new role.

Reflecting on the challenges currently facing golf clubs across the country, she said: “Clubs need members.

“Gone are the days of waiting lists and clubs need to encompass all the family and all ages.”

The club has carried out a series of improvements to both its club house and course in the past few years.

Kimberley, who has just retired from her job as a bank manager and plays off a handicap of 15, added: “I am quite excited about taking on this job as well as being able to play more of the sport I love best.”
