AN OCTOGENARIAN fundraiser is planning to cycle 84 miles to support music sessions for the elderly in Otley.

Mavis Richardson, from Keighley, is aiming to cycle one mile for each year of her life - in stages - to help fund the events at The Woolpack Music and Arts Studios.

Mavis completed a similar challenge last year when she swam 83 miles ‌in pool lengths to raise money for Dementia Friendly Keighley.

She has raised thousands for a variety of causes in recent years including by swimming, aged 79, for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.

Her efforts and commitment have led to her being dubbed Magic Mavis.

Richard Sabey from Woolpack Music and Arts Studios said: “Mavis is a very impressive person.

“She took a shine to us having been to one of our Wednesday morning music sessions, and started a fundraising campaign to allow us to run music sessions specifically for older people.

“She has already presented us with a cheque for £1,000 from sponsorship and her aim is to raise £5,000 for us by the end of the year.”
