A CYCLIST took part in one of the hardest one-day events in the country to raise money for charity after his dad was diagnosed with cancer.
Jeff Green, 51, from Ben Rhydding, completed the arduous Fred Whitton Challenge in the Lake District - covering 114 miles and taking in all the major passes in the area, with a total of nearly 4,000 metres of climb. Jeff finished the route in under nine hours and remained in the saddle for the gruelling Hardknott Pass, considered one of Britain’s toughest climbs with a gradient of 30 per cent. He raised more than £500 for Great North Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Support. His dad, Phil Green, from Burley, was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Jeff is no stranger to fundraising. Last year he took part in The Struggle, one of the hardest cycling events in Yorkshire, and raised more than £1,600 for Action for M.E. His mum, Lilian, suffers from the debilitating, neurological condition.
