FIVE district swimming stars have struck gold at a regional meet.

The Borough of Kirklees Short Course Meet took place at Huddersfield Leisure Centre this year and competitors from Bradford and the district shone bright.

Keighley-based Finlay Foster, 14, bagged no less than five medals in his age group.

The youngster won gold in the 50m butterfly, 50m and 100m breaststroke, as well as the 50m freestyle and the 100m individual medley.

Hot on his heels was Guiseley swimmer Ellen Winters who won four gongs in her fifteen-years and over age group.

She was top of the podium in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle, as well as in the 100m backstroke.

There was more success heading back to Keighley in the form of Gabe Medd.

He won gold in the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle, competing in the fourteen-years age group.

Josh Hall and Lucas Walton, both from Ilkley, got a gold each in the 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley respectively.

Elsewhere, Louie Dove put in some strong performances to take gold in the boys fifteen-years and over 50m butterfly, as well as the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Abigail Naylor got took top spot in the 50m and 100m freestyle in the fourteen-years category.

Finally, there were three more golds for swimmers from the Leisure Services Aquatic Competition Programme, which is part of the City of Bradford Swimming Club.

Sophia Gledhill was at the head of the podium for her win in the 100m butterfly.

Luca Curini and Freddy Dean were the other two to get golds in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly respectively.

All the mentioned swimmers are part of the training programme and are guided by Head Coach Andy Pearce and Development Coach Sarah Fisher.
